Romania is located west of the Black Sea and north of the Balkan Peninsula, in Europe's South Eastern tip. Moldova lies to the North and North East, and the Ukraine to the East, Yugoslavia and Hungary lie to the West.
The Carpathian Mountains are the principle geographic feature, which split the country, curving from the Ukrainian border through the centre, towards Serbia in the South West. Romania covers 91,699 square miles (237,500 square kilometers), and lies on the same latitude as France, between 44ƒ and 48ƒ.
