Halewood International Ltd is one of the U.K.s largest privately owned producers and importers of wines, spirits and speciality drinks. It was founded in 1978 by John Halewood, who believed there was a gap in the market for well-marketed drinks products. Halewood has been exploring opportunities in Romania since 1989, before the downfall of the Ceasescu regime, and in 1999 Halewood acquired Vinacool Prahova, renaming it Prahova Winecellars SA.

The company has invested over £5 million in Prahova Wine Cellars SA. The commitment includes the acquisition, major refurbishment and vineyard management of Prahova, ensuring high quality and consistency of the wines.

Prahova Wine Cellars SA consists of seven wineries all located in the major grape growing region of Dealul Mare, 4 distilleries, a sparkling wine facility and a number of retail outlets.
